Hand in Hand for Syria have joined forces with a number of charities to deliver a bold, united message of hope to the people of Syria; The Unity Convoy.
This project aims to raise enough funds to purchase 100 ambulances and transport them to Syria, where they will be allocated to medical facilities in the country.
Widespread destruction of basic infrastructure in Syrian cities has resulted in an unimaginable medical and humanitarian crisis. More than 50% of all public hospitals and medical facilities in the country have been destroyed, leaving the few functioning hospitals struggling to cope with demand. Getting to a functioning medical facility often means the difference between life and death for civilians in Syria, and all too often they are unable to seek medical help before it is too late.
Ambulances are a vital part of an emergency response in a war zone, and will enable civilians to receive medical help quickly, and in turn save countless lives.
How it will work:
The fundraising campaign for the Unity Convoy launched on the 16th of January.
Ambulances will be purchased once the target has been reached. Any remaining funds will be used to purchase medical aid and supplies.
The ambulance convoy is set to travel from the UK at the end of April in to Europe for Bulgaria. There, Hand in Hand for Syria teams will take over the remaining part of the journey, transporting the ambulances into Turkey, and then into Syria.
